The Blue Demons look to fine-tune performances at high-level meet
CHICAGO – Looking to escape the cold weather expected to hit the Chicagoland area, the DePaul track & field teams head to Louisville, Ky. to compete in the Lenny Lyles/Clark Wood Invitational on Friday and Saturday. The meet, hosted by the University of Louisville, is set to be the largest meet in the Cardinals' program history.
The two-day meet will begin at 1 p.m. on Friday at Cardinal Park. The hammer throw will kick off the event at the Louisville Throws Field. Running events are slated to begin at Cardinal Park at 3:30 p.m. with the preliminary rounds of the women's 100-meter hurdles featuring Alexia Brooks, Kaitlen Crawford and Isabel Ingram.
Traveling from all over the Midwest, the meet will see high-level competitors from Illinois State, Milwaukee, Cincinnati, Loyola Chicago, Virginia Tech, Ball State, host Louisville and BIG EAST rivals Xavier & Butler, among others.
Saturday's competition will open at 8 a.m. with Will Hauser and Paul Monteleone in the javelin followed by running launching off the starting blocks at 11 a.m. for the 3,000-meter steeplechase. The meet will conclude with the discus competition at 5 p.m. in the field and the men's 4x400-meter competition on the track.
At the DePaul Invitational last weekend, three members of the women's squad set new personal records. Setting the new high marks on the track were Rutendo Chimbaru (57.12) and Laura Edwards (57.22) in the 400-meter dash. In the field, Rebecca Chounaird threw a 35.70-meter PR in the discus. The junior has improved in every throw this season to lead up to the new personal best.
For the men, newcomer Kyle Casper set a 52.91 PR in the 400-meter dash at the annual home meet. Joining him in the updated personal best marks were William Hauser (49.50m) in the javelin; Isaac Jimenez (43.98m), Ben Litwin (44.69m) and Alex Murray (47.57) in the discus competitions.
