Sophomore records third top 25 finish of season

IOWA CITY, Iowa – DePaul sophomore Joe McCarthy finished in a tie for 25th to lead the Blue Demons at the Hawkeye Invitational. The tournament was the final event for DePaul ahead of next weekend's BIG EAST Championship.

McCarthy carded a 73 (+2) on Sunday for a 54-hole total of 213 (E). He opened the tournament with a career-best 68 (-3) and 72 (+1) in Saturday's first and second rounds. His finish marked the third top 25 showing of the season for McCarthy while his tournament score of 213 matched his best three-round total at DePaul.

Charlie Spencer-White followed McCarthy in a group in 37th place after his 71 (E) gave him a tournament score of 216 (+3). The senior also shot a 71 (E) and 74 (+3) in his first two circuits of Finkbine Golf Course.

Campbell Wolf, Carlo Antonio Gatmaytan and Grant Boyson wrapped up team play for the Blue Demons while Perry Chong finished his tournament as an individual. Wolf posted a 76 (+5) on Sunday after opening rounds of 69 (-2) and 74 (+3) for a total of 219 (+6) to finish in a tie for 48th. Gatmaytan finished in a tie for 58th with a career-best tournament total of 222 (+9). He carded three consecutive rounds of 74 (+3) on Saturday and Sunday.

Boyson matched his DePaul-best round with a score of 73 (+2) on Sunday after scores of 75 (+4) and 8 (+9) in the first two rounds. His 54-hole score of 228 (+15) marked the best total of his freshman season and put him in a group in 69th place. Chong shot a 77 (+6) in the third round to finish at 238 (+25) that included a 78 (+7) and 83 (+12) on Saturday.

Host Iowa claimed the team title by six shots over Illinois with a tournament score of 809 (-43). DePaul was 12th as the Blue Demons totaled a team score of 867 (+15). The Hawkeyes took the top two spots on the individual leaderboard as Matthew Walker and Alex Schaake each posted scores of 199 (-14).

The Blue Demons travel to Okatie, S.C. next weekend for the BIG EAST Championship at Callawassie Island Club. The three-day tournament between the nine conference programs runs April 26-28.
