DePaul looks to claim first BIG EAST title this weekend at Callawassie Island
CHICAGO - The DePaul golf team travels to Okatie, S.C. for the 2019 BIG EAST Championship that starts on Friday. The three-day, three-round event crowns the conference champion with the Blue Demons looking for their first BIG EAST title after finishing second or third in four of the last five years.

The BIG EAST Championship takes place at Callawassie Island Club that features three nine-hole courses. The conference championship will be played on the Dogwood and Magnolia courses that totals a par-72 layout over 6,993 yards. Tee times start at 8 a.m. ET each day.

The team winner of the nine-team event will earn the BIG EAST's automatic berth into the 2019 NCAA Tournament field. Should the individual champion not be a member of the championship team, he will also earn a spot in the NCAA Championship field as an individual.

Marquette earned the top seed in the tournament, followed by Seton Hall, Georgetown and Butler. Xavier is the No. 5 seed with DePaul in sixth and St. John's, Creighton and Villanova rounding out the nine-team field.

Competing for DePaul in the BIG EAST Championship are Charlie Spencer-White, Joe McCarthy, Grant Boyson, Campbell Wolf and Carlo Antonio Gatmaytan. Spencer-White finished in a tie for sixth in last year's conference championship with a score of 220 (+4) followed by McCarthy (223, +7) in a tie for eighth place.

Spencer-White Named BIG EAST Player of the Week: Following a career-best performance at the North Alabama Spring Classic, DePaul senior Charlie Spencer-White was named the BIG EAST Golfer of the Week. Spencer-White posted his best finish, best tournament score and top single round to earn league honors.

Spencer-White recorded the best finish of his career by taking second place at the North Alabama Spring Classic. His 2-under par score of 214 over 54 holes was a career best and his 67 in the first round on Monday was the top round of his career. The Blue Demons tied for seventh place on the team leaderboard. The tournament was held at the Turtle Point Yacht and Country Club in Killen, Ala.

Spring Recap: Earl Yestingsmeier Match Play (Feb. 11-12) – DePaul went 2-1 in the match play event... lost to Ball State, 3.5-2.5, before wins over Drake (3.5-2.5) and Ohio (4.5-1.5)... Campbell Wolf went 2-0-1 while Carlo Antonio Gatmaytan and Bobby Thomas were 2-1-0 in their matches. Loyola (Md.) Intercollegiate (Feb. 23-25) – The Blue Demons finished 13th out of 16 teams... Charlie Spencer-White was the top finisher in a tie for 38th place... Spencer-White's 70 and a 70 by Joe McCarthy in the second round were the top rounds of the event for DePaul. Charlie Spencer-White finished in a tie for 37th... DePaul was 12th out of 13 teams.
