Women's Tennis Advances to Sixth Straight BIG EAST Final

DePaul to meet Xavier in Monday's championship
CAYCE, S.C. -- The No. 2 seeded DePaul women's tennis team did what they do best, survived and advanced. For the sixth straight season, the Blue Demons secured a berth to the BIG EAST Championship match with a 4-2 win over Villanova on Sunday afternoon.
DePaul is set to face No. 1 seed Xavier on Monday at 11:30 a.m. CT with coverage streaming on BIG EAST Digital Network. The Musketeers defeated St. John's 4-3 to advance to the final.
In doubles action, the Blue Demons took the 1-0 advantage behind continued strong play from Keisha Clousing and Lenka Antonijevic at No. 1 with a 6-4 win and Marija Jovicic and Milica Tesic at No. 2 with a 6-3 victory.
In singles action, Keisha Clousing lifted the Blue Demons to a 2-0 advantage with a 6-2, 6-1 defeat of Lexi DeNucci at the No. 1 position.Â
The Wildcats drew closer with a win at No. 5, but Mairja Jovicic answered back to grab the 3-1 lead with a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 4 over Kaylan Rotman.Â
Lindsey Evans of Villanova defeated Alina Kuzmenkova 6-4, 6-4 at No. 3 to bring the score to 3-2.Â
Aspasia Avgeri clinched the championship berth for the Blue Demons in a hard fought match at No. 2, 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 over Claudia Althans.Â
The Blue Demons will shoot for their fourth BIG EAST title in six years on Monday afternoon when first serve takes place at the Cayce Fitness and Tennis Center.
