DePaul Alums Start NBA Summer League

Garrett joins Phoenix and Strus playing with Boston in Las Vegas
CHICAGO – DePaul basketball alums Billy Garrett Jr. and Max Strus join the rest of the NBA in Las Vegas starting Friday night for the annual NBA Summer League. Garrett is on the roster with the Phoenix Suns while Strus is playing for the Boston Celtics.
Garrett opens league play Friday night with the Suns after finishing last season with the New York Knicks. Garrett played in four games with the Knicks holding a scoring average of 6.5 in 15.9 minutes per game. He's played the last two seasons for the Knicks G-League affiliate – the Westchester Knicks – where he averaged 14.2 points per game in 98 career games.

Strus signed a two-way contract with the Celtics shortly after the conclusion of the 2019 NBA Draft. Under the two-way contract, Strus will play for both the Celtics and the Maine Red Claws - the G-League affiliate of Boston. In addition to Strus on the Celtics roster, former DePaul graduate assistant Brandon Bailey is on the bench as an assistant coach for Boston. The Celtics play their first game Saturday against Philadelphia.

A total of 83 games will be played over 11 days in Las Vegas between UNLV's Thomas & Mack Center and Cox Pavilion. All 30 NBA teams will be represented along with the national teams from China and Croatia. Every team plays four preliminary games before the top eight teams are seeded in a tournament, which culminates with a championship game on July 15. Teams that do not qualify for the tournament will each play a consolation game.
