The Blue Demons return from first meet of season at Illinois
CHICAGO – The DePaul men's and women's cross country teams competed Friday afternoon at the Illini Open hosted by the University of Illinois at the UI Armory. Racing among teams ranked in the USTFCCCA preseason coach's polls in the Midwest Region, the Blue Demons saw strong finishes from returners and newcomers alike.
The women's 5K race saw 54 competitors from Northwestern, Purdue and Illinois. The men's pack of 30 in the 8K had the Boilermakers, Illini and Blue Demons racing for the top spot.Â
Â
Sophomore Dominic Bruce led the men's squad with a 26:02.9 time in the 8K race to place 13th among the competition. Following shortly behind Bruce, fellow sophomore Ryan Taylor edged out Bennet Melone from Illinois to earn 15th place with a 26:13.6 time. Rounding out the scorers for the men's team were Charlie McIntyre, Henry Harper and Noah Deck.
Â
On the women's side, newcomer Olivia Borowiak led the women's squad in the 5K race, clocking in a time of 19:01.5.
