Blue Demons Head North for Badger Classic

Cross Country continues its 2019 campaign in Madison, Wis.
CHICAGO – Heading into its second meet of the season, DePaul cross country travels to Wisconsin to compete in the Badger Classic hosted at the Thomas Zimmer Championship Course. The women's team will begin the meet with a 6K beginning at 6 p.m. with the men kicking off the 8K race at 6:30 p.m.

In the pack of competitors, the Blue Demons will race against the Badgers and the Northwestern Wildcats. This is the second matchup between DePaul and Northwestern this season, the Blue Demons and Wildcats both marked the beginning of their season at the Illini Cross Country open on Friday, Aug. 30.

The last time the Blue Demon men's squad participated in the Badger Classic was on Sept. 23, 2016. The men claimed second place with Chris Korabik leading DePaul and placing fifth overall in the 6K race. Senior Noah Deck contributed to the point total, placing 33rd overall with a time of 20:24.5. Deck will, however, leave it to his teammates to make their mark this season.

Last week in Urbana, Ill., the Blue Demons were led by sophomore Dominic Bruce who clocked a time of 26:02.9 in the 8K race to place 13th overall. Fellow sophomore Ryan Taylor was close behind, placing 15th overall and second among the DePaul men's squad with a time of 26:13.6. Rounding out the point total were contributions from Charlie McIntyre, Henry Harper and Noah Deck.

Heading to their second meet of the season, Chris Ahlers, Ryan Bonfiglio, H. Harper, Shane Knanishu, Michael Parry and Ryan Taylor look to improve on their performances. Joining them will be 10 women participating in the 6K race.

No stranger to high-level competition, the women's squad will see newcomer Olivia Borowiak returning to the course after leading the Blue Demons at the last meet. The Yorkville native ran a 19:01.5 in the 5K to edge out  Sophie Debenedetti from Northwestern by two-tenths of a second. Violet Harper, Maret Elgren and Alexa Havon, who contributed to the DePaul point total at the Illini Open will also make the trip to Madison. Joining them will be Ericka Burgess, Lorie Cashdollar, Jessica Harris, Margaret Hastings, Kate Jacobs and Mackenzie Mescher.
