Junior records best round by a Blue Demon in 15 years
CHESTERSTON, Ind. – Nik Gatmaytan turned in the best round of his career with a sizzling six-under score of 66 to finish in a tie for sixth place at the Crusader Collegiate. Gatmaytan's round is the lowest by a DePaul golfer since the 2004-05 season.
Gatmaytan's round on Tuesday was bogey-free as he made the circuit around Sand Creek CC with six birdies. After starting the day in a tie for 21st place, he moved up the leaderboard into a tie for sixth for the best finish of his collegiate career. Gatmaytan finished the tournament with a score of 213 (-3).
His round of 66 was the best round by a Blue Demon since Matt McMahon's record of 63 (-7) at the The Tillinghast at Fenway GC in Scarsdale, N.Y. in October 2004.
Two freshmen followed Gatmaytan as Noah Kolar was tied for 16th and Stephen Sul was in a group in 25th place. Sul joined sophomore Campbell Wolf in a tie for 25th place. Kolar carded his second straight 71 (-1) in the third round to finish at 217 (+1) while Sul and Wolf each posted a 54-hole total of 220 (+4). Sul fired a 70 (-2) in his third round while Wolf posted a 77 (+5).
