CHICAGO - DePaul is set to begin 2019 BIG EAST play at McGrath-Phillips Arena this Wednesday against Xavier in a 6 p.m. CT match.Â
The Blue Demons are currently 8-4 on the season. DePaul started its 2019 campaign by going 3-0 in Dr. Mary Jo Wynn Invitational play and went 2-1 the following weekend at the CEFCU Invitational. DPU then hosted back-to-back tournaments, going undefeated and claiming the tournament champion title in its own DePaul Invitational, but then dropping 0-3 in the Chicago Cup against some tough local opponents.Â
FROM ZIDEK
"We are excited to open BIG EAST play welcoming Xavier to our house on Wednesday," said head coach Marie Zidek. "They are a team that we match up with well. After a tough weekend, it is common to be super hungry for the next match to gain back confidence and execution and get back on our systems and the style of play we have been working on all year. Our group has been super focused and they are all mentally and physically ready to open up BIG EAST play."
SERIES AGAINST XAVIER
The Musketeers hold a 17-6 advantage in the series against DePaul and are on a single-game win streak in the match up. The Blue Demons claimed a 3-1 victory over Xavier in the first contest between the two in 2018, however, Xavier came back with a 3-1 win of its own in the last battle between the opponents.Â
SCOUTING THE MUSKETEERS
Xavier currently sits ninth in the BIG EAST standings, four spots below DePaul. The Musketeers are currently 3-7 on the season after going 2-1 in the season-opening Utah State Tournament,1-2 in their own Xavier Tournament and 0-2 in both the Lipscomb Tournament and Xavier University Tournament.Â
