After a day of localized flash flooding, the Blue Demons see success on familiar course
CHICAGO – Seeing one of the first days of autumn weather, DePaul men's and women's cross country raced a very wet and muddy course at the 42nd Loyola Lakefront Invitational at Montrose Harbor in Lincoln Park.
Â
Members of the DePaul track and field teams were in attendance to cheer on their fellow Blue Demons as they competed in one of the largest events so far this season in the Sean Earl Invite Maroon Division 5K and 8K races.
Â
The women's team was led by senior Courtney Pickering with an impressive 18:58 in the 5,000-meter race. Following not too far behind Pickering were newcomers Alexa Havon and Violet Harper, sophomore Maret Elgren who led the team in the race last season, and freshman Olivia Borowiak. Â The squad managed to have a tight finish and earned 10th place overall, beating out UIC, Northwestern, UTSA among others.
Â
On the men's side, junior Charlie McIntyre shaved off over a minute from his 8K finish last season to lead the Blue Demon men's team with a time of 25:45 to finish 25th in a group of 127 competitors. Combined with the scores from Henry Harper, Noah Deck, Dominic Bruce and Shane Knanishu the DePaul squad was able to overcome UIC and UTSA. The men also noted a close finish among the pack.
