LOUISVILLE, Ky. — DePaul cross country returns from the Live in Lou Cross Country Classic where Charlie McIntyre led the men's squad in the 8K race for the third time this season. Alexa Havon was the first Blue Demon to cross the finish line in the 5K at E.P. "Tom" Sawyer State Park.
"The men's race was the best we've had collectively since 2016," said associate head coach Derrick Peterson. "I am so proud of the training and the results we are experiencing and achieving. We came to Louisville to race fast and that's exactly what the men did."
All six Blue Demon competitors set personal bests in the men's 8,000-meter competition that saw over 370 racers from universities across the nation. Junior Charlie McIntyre led DePaul with an impressive 24:36.3 finish to place 50th overall. McIntyre previously led the Blue Demons at the Illinois State Invite and last weekend's Loyola Lakefront Invite.
Finishing second among his teammates, senior Henry Harper shaved off nearly a minute and a half off of his previous personal best when he crossed the line at the 24:40.5 mark. Joining him in seeing new personal bests were Noah Deck (25:03.2), Dominic Bruce (25:11.7), Ryan Taylor (25:20.3) and Shane Knanishu (25:26.6).
"The women's team had quite the day as well," Peterson added. "Alexa and Violet ran great races today. Alexa passed about 50 other high-level competitors in the last mile of the race."
After coming in second among her DePaul squad in three races this season, freshman Alexa Havon marked the fastest time for the Blue Demons in the 5K competition. The Andover, Minn. native clocked an 18:14.5 finish, which would mark a new personal best. Joining her in updating personal marks in the race that saw over 340 competitors were Violet Harper (18:29.9), Maret Elgren (18:48.4) and Margaret Hastings (19:02.1).
"I'm pretty tough on this team of men and women, but seeing all their hard work and development thrive when they trust in the process makes it a great day to proudly wear royal blue and scarlet," Peterson added.
