DePaul Heads Southwest for CEFCU Invitational

CHICAGO - The DePaul volleyball team roadtrips Southwest to Peoria, Ill. to compete in the CEFCU Invitational featuring Oakland, Belmont and host Bradley. The Blue Demons will play in two contests on Friday against Oakland at 10 a.m. and Belmont at 4:30 p.m., with one final contest being played Saturday at 2 p.m. against Bradley.

"This team is hungry to build on the success of last weekend," said head coach Marie Zidek in regards to DePaul's season-opening 3-0 run in the Dr. Mary Jo Wynn Invitational. "Now that our opponents have had the chance to scout us, winning points, sets and matches only makes this harder to do from here on out.
"Our squad has been great at embracing our growth mindset one practice and one match at a time and we look forward to Oakland, Belmont and Bradley as continued opportunities to prepare for BIG EAST play."
SERIES AGAINST OAKLAND
This will be the first meeting between the Golden Grizzlies and the Blue Demons.Â
SCOUTING THE GOLDEN GRIZZLIES
Oakland finished the 2018 season with an overall record of 10-17. The Golden Grizzlies are currently 2-1 overall after competing in the Michigan Invitational where they fell to No. 15 Michigan in straight sets but defeated Tennessee Tech, 3-0 and Northern Arizona, 3-1. After one weekend of play, Oakland is hitting .204 as a team.Â
SERIES AGAINST BELMONT
DePaul dropped its lone contest against the Bruins in 2005.
SCOUTING THE BRUINS
In 2018, Belmont finished with the same amount of wins as the Blue Demons and one less loss, with an overall record of 5-23. The Bruins started out the 2019 season getting swept by North Alabama, Milwaukee and Arkansas State at the Bruiser Showcase, however, they picked up a 3-0 win in a single contest against Alabama A&M to result in a 1-3 overall record.Â
SERIES AGAINST BRADLEY
DePaul sits in a 9-14 deficit in the series against the Braves but has won the last three contests between the two, with the last being in 2015.Â
SCOUTING THE BRAVES
The Braves had a successful 2018 season, finishing with a record of 24-9 after falling to Drake in the Missouri Valley Conference Championship match. So far in 2019. Bradley is 0-3 after being swept by SMU Doubletree Invitational opponents in SMU, Stephen F. Austin and UTSA.Â
