Reed Garners Fifth BIG EAST Weekly Honor of the Season

Junior forward averaged 20.5 points and 12.0 rebounds while shooting over 70 percent from the field in two games
CHICAGO – DePaul junior forward Paul Reed was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll for the fifth time this season after averaging 20.5 points, 12.0 rebounds, 3.0 steals and 1.5 blocked shots in games at No. 14/15 Villanova and against No. 5/5 Butler.
Reed's week including a two-game field goal percentage of .739 (17-23) while going 2-for-4 from three-point range and 5-of-6 (.833) at the free throw line. The preseason second team All-BIG EAST honoree also earned weekly honors on Nov. 18, Dec. 2, Dec. 9 and Dec. 16.
He opened the week with 18 points, 15 rebounds, a career-high five steals, two blocked shots and an assist at Villanova while going 9-of-14 from the field with his 12th double-double of the season.
The Orlando native was nearly perfect against Butler on Saturday and finished the game with 23 points and nine rebounds. He made his first eight shots from the field before missing final attempt (8-9 FG, 2-3 3pt. FG, 5- 5 FT) while adding an assist, a blocked shot and a steal against the Bulldogs. With the nine boards, it marked his third game of season with double-figure points and nine rebounds in addition to 12 double-doubles.
Marquette's Markus Howard was named the BIG EAST Player of the Week and Jeremiah Robinson-Earl of Villanova was the Freshman of the Week. Reed was joined on the honor roll by Ty-Shon Alexander of Creighton, Georgetown's Omer Yurtseven, Providence's David Duke and Myles Powell from Seton Hall.
DePaul plays two games at Wintrust Arena this week starting Wednesday against Creighton. The Blue Demons and BlueJays square off at 8 p.m. on Wednesday before St. John's visits Chicago on Saturday for a 1 p.m. game.
