DePaul Drops Game to Visiting Creighton

Blue Demons wrap up three-game homestand on Saturday against St. John's
CHICAGO – Visiting Creighton put five players in double figures as the Bluejays posted an 83-68 win over DePaul on Wednesday night at Wintrust Arena. Paul Reed recorded his 13th double-double of the season to led the Blue Demons.
Both teams started slow going a combined 5-for-18 from the field to start the evening. Charlie Moore found an open Reed for a dunk to pull DePaul within 7-6 and forcing a Creighton time out with 14:21 left in the first half.
A three-point play for Moore brought DePaul to within a point before the Bluejays reeled off seven straight to take a 20-12 advantage midway through the first half.
Creighton (15-5, 4-3 BIG EAST) maintained its lead throughout the first half as Moore threaded the needle to Romeo Weems to make the score 28-25 before Creighton's Mitch Ballock answered with consecutive three-pointers to push the Bluejays back up by nine points.
Over the final 4:26, the Blue Demons held Creighton without a field goal as two free throws by Moore on DePaul's last possession made the score 37-34 in favor of the Bluejays at intermission.
DePaul (13-6, 1-5 BIG EAST) went cold to start the second half and Creighton took advantage and went up 12 points just over six minutes into the second half. The Bluejays held a double-figure lead the remainder of the game while steadily building its lead and led by as many as 22 points with 6:46 left in the game.
Reed finished with 22 points and 12 rebounds along with three blocked shots to lead four DePaul players in double figures. Moore added 13 points and seven assists while Weems and Jalen Coleman-Lands scored 11 points each.
Ballock led Creighton with 19 points while Damien Jefferson and Denzel Mahoney scored 14 points apiece.
DePaul closes the three-game homestand on Saturday afternoon when St. John's visits Wintrust Arena. Start time is 1 p.m. on FS1 and WSCR (670 AM).
