Men's tennis hits the road to face Purdue and Toledo in West Lafayette, Ind.
CHICAGO – The latest challenge for coach Matt Brothers and his Blue Demons is kind of like tennis' version of a double-header.
DePaul travels to West Lafayette, Ind. for Saturday's 9 a.m. match against Purdue. Four hours later, the Blue Demons will tangle with Toledo at the Schwartz Tennis Center.
DePaul is off to a 1-2 start after opening the dual-match season with a win over UIC but falling last weekend to Wisconsin and Green Bay. That kicked off the most demanding stretch of the schedule with 12 matches away from Lincoln Park.
Including the fall tournament season, Christopher Casati has racked up the best singles record at 10-5. Tripp Tuff enters the weekend with an 11-9 mark while Luuk Wassenaar is 11-10 and Tamas Zador 8-7.
Now that he is back from injury, watch for No. 1 singles player Vito Tonejc (2-1) to regain the form that earned him BIG EAST Freshman of the Year honors in 2019.
The top doubles team is Casati and Boris Spanjaard with a 12-5 record.
Purdue has opened the dual season with a 2-3 record with wins over Army West Point and Utah and losses to Harvard, Notre Dame and No. 6 Ohio State.
Toledo is off to a 2-4 start having defeated Wright State and Dayton while losing to Michigan State, Kentucky, Cleveland State and Ohio State.
