Eleanor Nobbs career ranking No. 12 in Great Britain U18 division
CHICAGO – Recruiting Division I prospective student-athletes is challenging enough without a coronavirus pandemic raging worldwide to maximize the degree of difficulty.
Despite all that, DePaul women's tennis coach Marisa Arce delivered an unequivocal ace on Wednesday with the signing of talented tennis recruit Eleanor Nobbs on the NCAA's National Letter of Intent signing day.
The newest Blue Demon hails from the town of Bath in the United Kingdom and fits right into the team's international culture as eight of the team members were either born or raised overseas.
In addition to her skills on the court, Hobbs also embraces the two other pillars of DePaul student-athletes when it comes to academics and the Vincentian mission.
"We are so excited to officially welcome Eleanor to the DePaul family," Arce said. "Eleanor fits our team culture perfectly. She is passionate about tennis, disciplined both in school and on the court and is a very kind and inclusive person."
That kindness is temporarily replaced by a competitive edge once Nobbs takes hold of her tennis racket. She had a career ranking of No. 12 in Great Britain's U18 division and was a U18 doubles finalist at both the Great Britain National Championships and the Scottish Nationals in 2019.
The graduate from Midsomer North School was the U18 Avon County champion at the age of 14.
Nobbs was No. 1 in the Avon region U18 and represented Avon at women's national County Cup. She was the women's singles champion at the Bath Fast 4 British Tour and a U16 singles semifinalist at two other National Tours.
Arce was impressed by her dedication to the sport.
"Since she couldn't play tennis during the COVID-19 lockdown, Eleanor proactively decided to better her mental game by reading, watching videos and implementing all the things she learned into her daily life," Arce said. "Once back on court, all of that was implemented in her tennis game as well.
"It has already made an impact on her performance and results. That just shows her commitment to herself and her tennis, and I can't wait to see all the success she will have at the college level."
