Blue Demon senior point guard among top 10 for coveted honor
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – For the second year in a row, Kelly Campbell has made the cut for one of the most prestigious awards in women's basketball.
On the heels of her second career triple-double eight days ago comes word that Campbell is among the 10 finalists for the 2020 Nancy Lieberman Award announced Monday by the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame and the Women's Basketball Coaches Association.
Lieberman Award candidates must exhibit the floor leadership along with the playmaking and ball-handling skills of the legendary women's basketball Class of 1996 Hall of Famer Nancy Lieberman.
Campbell has done just that this season, leading the entire nation in assist-turnover ratio and ranking No. 6 in the country in total assists.
She tied Jessica January for the DePaul record of two triple-doubles in a career when she led the No. 13/14 Blue Demons to a 93-71 victory over Providence on Feb. 2 with 12 points, 11 rebounds and 13 assists.
The 5-foot, 10-inch senior point guard is No. 4 in all-time assists with 615, approaching No. 3 Chanise Jenkins (670). No. 2 Veronica Ross finished with 672 assists and the all-time record-holder is Brittany Hrynko with 680.
Campbell is also No. 7 in career rebounds with 928 and is bidding to become only the sixth player in program history to finish with 1,000 points and 1,000 rebounds.
"We are proud to announce the Women's Starting Five watch lists and finalists," said John L. Doleva, President and CEO of the Basketball Hall of Fame. "The student-athletes being honored are fantastic players who deserve to be commended. We look forward to evaluating this year's candidates alongside Nancy Lieberman as she paved the way for today's female athletes and her insights are greatly appreciated."

New to the award this season is Fan Voting presented by Dell Technologies. Starting Five Fan Voting presented by Dell Technologies will go live Friday, February 14 via www.hoophallawards.com.
