Blue Demons win three singles matches in 4-3 road setback Sunday
DES MOINES, Iowa. – DePaul men's tennis won three singles matches on Sunday, but came up one point shy of win at the Roger Knapp Tennis Center.
Drake came away with three singles wins and took the doubles point as the Blue Demons fell 4-3.
Vito Tonejc scored for DePaul with a straight-set victory over Oliver Johansson 6-4, 6-4 at No. 1 singles. Boris Spanjaard duplicated that effort with a tough and demanding 6-4, 4-6, 1-0 (10-8) triumph over Drake's Barny Thorold.
At No. 3 singles, Christopher Casati came through with a 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 comeback win over the Bulldogs' Evan Fragistas.
DePaul (3-7) dropped the No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6 singles showdowns to Drake (2-10) along with a pair of doubles matches.
Coach Matt Brothers and his team will encounter some high-caliber competition next weekend at the HEB Invitational in Corpus Christi, Texas.
