DePaul Opens Homestand Against Villanova

Blue Demons and Wildcats set for 8 p.m. start Wednesday at Wintrust Arena
CHICAGO – DePaul returns to Wintrust Arena for a pair of games this week starting Wednesday night against No. 12/13 Villanova. Georgetown visits Chicago on Saturday night to complete the two-game homestand. The Villanova game is just the second home game for DePaul in 25 days. Since playing St. John's on Jan. 25, DePaul only hosted Xavier on Feb. 4 and Villanova on Feb. 19. Start time Wednesday night against the Wildcats is scheduled for 8 p.m.
Wednesday's game can be seen on CBS Sports Network with Andrew Catalon (play-by-play), Steve Lappas (analyst) and Jamie Erdahl (reporter) handling the broadcast duties. Villanova - ranked No. 12 in this week's AP poll and No. 13 in the coaches top 25 - is 19-6 overall and 8-4 in the BIG EAST following a 76-56 win in a non-conference game at Temple on Sunday. DePaul stands at 13-12 and 1-11 in league play after a 93-64 loss at Creighton on Saturday.
Blue Demons vs. Top 25: DePaul is 1-3 this season against ranked opponents. The win was a 79-66 decision over Butler on Jan. 18 at Wintrust Arena while all three defeats have occurred on the road. The Blue Demons dropped a 79-75 overtime game at No. 14/15 Villanova on Jan. 14, a 64-57 defeat at No. 10/10 Seton Hall on Jan. 29 and a 93-64 loss at No. 23/21 Creighton on Feb. 15.
With its No. 5/5 ranking, Butler was the highest-ranked opponent to visit Wintrust Arena since No. 3/4 Xavier on March 3, 2018. The Musketeers defeated the Blue Demons, 65-62, in that game. The 2017-18 season also saw No. 1-ranked Villanova at Wintrust Arena.
Before the 79-66 win over fifth-ranked Butler on Jan. 18, DePaul's last win over a top five team was a 64-57 victory at Allstate Arena over No. 5/5 Kansas on Dec. 2, 2006. The last road win over a ranked opponent was a 79-71 victory at No. 24/23 St. John's on Jan. 12, 2019 inside Carnesecca Arena.

Only Rod Strickland has totaled at least 400 points and 200 assists in program history as he finished the 1987-88 season with 521 points and 202 assists in 26 games. Most recently in the BIG EAST, Kris Dunn (Providence) totaled 542 points and 206 assists in 33 games and Mo Watson (Creighton) totaled 492 points and 229 assists in 35 games during the 2015-16 campaign. Over the last 10 seasons (2009-19), only seven BIG EAST players (eight occasions) have totaled at least 400 points and 200 assists in a season. Dunn is the only player to accomplish the feat twice.
