
National Power Next Up for Blue Demons

DePaul Takes on No. 7 Columbia on Friday and faces Illinois State on Saturday
CHICAGO – The Blue Demons will confront their biggest challenge of the season when they go head-to-head with No. 7 Columbia at noon on Friday.
The Lions from the Ivy League come into the neutral-court showdown at Northwestern having competed against some of the nation's top programs.
Their 5-2 record includes wins over No. 10 Tennessee, No. 12 Baylor and two national powers that were ranked No. 14 at various points---South Carolina and Oklahoma State.
Columbia's two losses came at the hands of No. 3 Florida and No. 5 Michigan.
On Saturday, coach Matt Brothers and his team will encounter an Illinois State program that is 11-5 and is seeking its sixth win in a row. First serve is set for 4:15 p.m. at Lakeshore Sport & Fitness.
Boris Spanjaard has led the way in singles during the dual-match season with a sparkling 8-5 record, mostly at the No. 2 position. Christopher Casati is 6-5 playing primarily in the No. 4 slot. Fran Tonejc is 3-1 at the No. 6 spot.
Casati and Spanjaard have been DePaul's most successful doubles team, going 7-4 in the dual season and compiling an impressive overall doubles record of 18-8. They won all three matches last week at the competitive H-E-B Tournament of Champions in Corpus Christi, Texas.
Another Blue Demon combo that is clicking consists of Fran and Vito Tonejc who have won five of their first seven doubles matches in the dual season.
