Stonewall leads five in double figures with a career-high 29 points
SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – After rallying late to steal one from St. John's despite an off night less than 48 hours ago, No. 14/14 DePaul was due for one of its signature performances.
And none other than Chante Stonewall came through with a career game in the Blue Demons' 86-76 victory over Seton Hall on Sunday in front of a hostile and loud Walsh Gymnasium partisan crowd.
Stonewall set career highs with 29 points and 12 field goals, scorching the Pirates for 24 points in the first half. She was dominant all over the court, scoring down low and knocking down jumpers. For good measure, Stonewall also pulled down 10 rebounds.
Fellow senior Kelly Campbell turned in another brilliant performance with 11 points, 13 rebounds and six assists. Sonya Morris finished with 14 points, nine rebounds, five assists and three steals while Deja Church scored 13 points. Rounding out a double-figure starting five, Lexi Held scored 12 points.
DePaul improved to 22-3 and 12-1 in the BIG EAST while Seton Hall dropped to 15-9, 8-5.
Despite scoring from Stonewall and Morris, Seton Hall closed to within 72-71 with 6:05 left in the fourth quarter. That's when Church and Dee Bekelja responded with huge three-pointers in restoring a 78-71 advantage with 4:31 to go.
Baskets by Stonewall and Held along with four Campbell free throws closed it out for the BIG EAST leader.
Up by 10 at halftime, DePaul saw Seton Hall score the first five points of the third quarter to pull within 50-45---prompting coach Doug Bruno to call timeout.
The Pirates went on an 11-5 run to take the lead 57-56 until Kelly Campbell buried a clutch three-pointer to re-take the lead with 3:32 left in the third quarter. Campbell's layup upped the lead to 61-57. A Church drive and Stonewall's foul shot put DePaul in front 64-61 heading into the final 10 minutes.
Stonewall came out firing with a pair of three-pointers and a jumper in the first five minutes. Held also drained a long one and Morris scored early as the Blue Demons led 17-15 at the first quarter media timeout.
It was a good sign for DePaul that Stonewall was returning to form. The stalwart senior had 13 points in the first 10 minutes on 5-of-7 shooting. She helped her team close out the first quarter on a 12-6 spurt for a 27-21 lead.
Kiara Dallmann gave the Blue Demons some quality minutes off the bench with two post scores and is showing signs of becoming a force on the floor.
A Stonewall score and a Church three provided a nine-point lead early in the second quarter. Seton Hall responded with five in a row and it was 32-28 at the media timeout.
Morris and Held connected from deep and after a Morris free throw, DePaul moved in front 44-36. Continuing her offensive onslaught, Stonewall scored her team's final six points of the quarter to build a 50-40 margin at halftime.
After scoring 13 points in the first quarter, the 6-1 forward from Downstate Normal added 11 more in the next 10 minutes for an eye-popping 24 at the break on 10-of-14 shooting. Her career high of 28 points was in sight even as Seton Hall coach Tony Bozzella began plotting a defense to slow her down over the final 20 minutes.

- Stonewall has scored in double figures the last 19 games in a row and 24 of 25 on the season.
