Blue Demons take on NIU on Friday and Wright State on Sunday
CHICAGO – DePaul men's tennis gets to spend the weekend in Lincoln Park with a pair of home matches on Friday and Sunday.
First up is a 7:15 p.m. matchup against Northern Illinois at Lakeshore Sport & Fitness.
Two days later, coach Matt Brothers and his Blue Demons are right back at their home court on Fullerton Avenue to take on Wright State.
DePaul (6-9) is coming off a nice 4-3 win over Illinois State last Saturday at Lakeshore Sport & Fitness. In the dual-match season, Boris Spanjaard is 8-7 competing primarily at No. 2 singles while his doubles partner Christopher Casati is 7-7 mostly at No. 3 and No. 4 singles.
As a doubles team, Spanjaard and Casati have already reached the 20-win mark with an overall record of 20-8. The No. 1 tandem is 9-4 in the dual season and will bring a five-match winning streak into the NIU showdown.
The brothers team of Fran and Vito Tonejc have also performed well in doubles going 7-2 in the dual season after both were sidelined in the fall season by injury.
NIU (6-4) will be looking for its fifth win in a row after defeating Cardinal Stritch twice, Eastern Illinois and Binghamton. The Huskies have lost to Gonzaga, Wisconsin, UIC and Valparaiso.
Wright State enters the weekend with a 2-6 record with losses to Ohio State, Toledo, Xavier, Dayton, Ball State and Butler. The Raiders have succeeded against Austin Peay and Thomas More.
