DePaul Alums Kick Off the Nation’s Return to Sports

Sarah Gorden and Kelli Hubly travel to Utah for the NWSL Challenge Cup
CHICAGO – As the National Women's Soccer League begins the 2020 NWSL Challenge Cup this weekend, DePaul alumnae Sarah Gorden and Kelli Hubly will be among the first professional athletes to return to competition in the United States as Hubly and Portland Thorns FC play Saturday morning followed by Gorden's Chicago Red Stars on Saturday evening.
Hubly starts her fourth season this weekend with Thorns FC. The defender finished her DePaul career in 2016 and has played for Portland since 2017. Gorden begins her fifth season with the hometown Red Stars after serving as the anchor of the DePaul defense over her four seasons in Lincoln Park.
The Challenge Cup is an eight-team, 23-game tournament that can be seen on CBS, CBS All Access and CBS Sports Network. CBS will air the opening match between North Carolina Courage and Portland Thorns FC on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. MT/11:30 a.m. CT and the final on July 26. The full tournament will be streamed live on CBS All Access in the U.S. and Canada and will re-air on CBS Sports Network. Fans outside the U.S. and Canada can stream the full tournament on Twitch.
The former Blue Demons will face off on July 1 as Portland and Chicago meet at 10:30 a.m. MT on CBS All Access. The Challenge Cup will take place at Zions Bank Stadium in Herriman, Utah with the semifinals and finals at Rio Tinto Stadium in Sandy, Utah.
