Morris Earns Fourth BIG EAST Accolade of the Season

Selected to BIG EAST Honor Roll after averaging 21.5 points last week
CHICAGO – Sonya Morris was recognized for the fourth time this season by the BIG EAST on Monday.
The leading scorer for No. 19/22 DePaul (8-3, 5-1 BIG EAST) was selected to the BIG EAST Honor Roll after averaging 21.5 points, 5.5 assists, 3.0 rebounds and 2.5 steals in wins over St. John's and at Georgetown.
It signified that the junior guard had one of the top five performances in the conference last week. She was named BIG EAST Player of the Week on Dec. 28 and has been an Honor Roll recipient three times this season.
Morris had 17 points, nine assists, five rebounds and three steals in a 101-84 victory over St. John's last Wednesday at Wintrust Arena.
Last Saturday she scored a game-high 26 points in just 21 minutes while leading the Blue Demons to a 78-54 road victory over Georgetown. Morris shot 9-of-13 from the field including 4-of-5 from three-point range.
Morris is tied for first in the BIG EAST with 20-point performances, having reached that mark seven times in 11 games.
On the season, the dynamic combo backcourt performer is averaging 18.5 points and leads the team in three-point shooting connecting on 25-of-61 (41 percent).
Seton Hall graduate student Andra Espinoza-Hunter who transferred from Mississippi State was named the BIG EAST Player of the Week while Georgetown's Kelsey Ransom was Freshman of the Week.
DePaul's next scheduled game is at 6 p.m. Thursday at Butler in the historic Hinkle Fieldhouse which was the location for the final scenes in the legendary Indiana high school basketball movie "Hoosiers."
