CHICAGO – DePaul women's basketball returns to the court Wednesday evening to take on top-ranked UConn at Wintrust Arena. The 7 p.m. matchup between the Blue Demons and Huskies serves as the culmination of a National Girls and Women in Sports Day celebration hosted by the BIG EAST Conference and DePaul Athletics. JB Long, Candace Parker and Autumn Johnson will have the call on TruTV and HBO Max.
Limited upper-level tickets remain for Wednesday's game and can be purchased here.
DePaul (5-19, 2-11 BIG EAST) has won two of its last three home games and looks to continue that momentum Wednesday after dropping a pair of road contests at Marquette and Villanova last week. Against the Wildcats, the Blue Demons couldn't quite overcome a slow start, managing just 20 points in the first half before playing Villanova even after the break.
Sophomore guard Devin Hagemann led DePaul with 14 points against the Wildcats, while Natiah Nelson added 10 points on 71-percent shooting from the field.
DePaul's improvement has been evident as it's opened the back half of conference play. The Blue Demons have flipped a –84 point differential from initial meetings with Marquette, Creighton and Villanova into a combined +1 margin in the rematches.
Junior guard Kate Novik leads DePaul, averaging 12.1 points, 6.3 rebounds and 3.6 assists per game.
Top-ranked UConn enters Wednesday's matchup at 23-0 on the season following a 95-65 win over No. 15 Tennessee on Sunday. The Huskies feature three players averaging double figures, led by BIG EAST scoring leader Sarah Strong at 19.4 points per game. Azzi Fudd and Bianca Quiñonez contribute 17.1 and 10.7 points per contest, respectively. As a team, UConn leads the nation in field goal percentage at 53.0 percent while holding opponents to a nation's-best 51.1 points per game. Head coach Geno Auriemma is in his 41st season at the helm.
UConn leads the all-time series 27-1. DePaul's lone victory came in the first-ever meeting between the programs, a 70-64 win in Minneapolis on Dec. 28, 1983. Earlier this season, the Huskies claimed a 102-35 victory at Gampel Pavilion.
