Blue Demon senior guard selected to BIG EAST Honor Roll
CHICAGO – Deja Church received her first BIG EAST Conference accolade as a Blue Demon on Monday.
Church was selected to the BIG EAST Honor Roll after her first double-double of the season (13 points, 12 rebounds) helped lead No. 18/21 DePaul to an 80-66 victory last Thursday at Butler.
The 5-foot, 10-inch senior transferred to DePaul on April 23, 2019 after playing her first two seasons at Michigan.
The Honor Roll recognition signifies that Church had one of the six best performances in the league last week that lifted the Blue Demons to an overall record of 9-3 and 6-1 in the BIG EAST.
Church is averaging nearly 13 points a game this season and leads the team in rebounding at 5.7 a game and total blocked shots with 10.
Seton Hall's Andra Espinoza-Hunter was named BIG EAST Player of the Week while Connecticut's Paige Bueckers was selected BIG EAST Freshman of the Week for the fifth time this season.
Joining Church on the Honor Roll were Christyn Williams (UConn), Chloe Marotta (Marquette), Qadashah Hoppie (St. John's) and Desiree Elmore (Seton Hall).
The Blue Demons' next scheduled game is 12 p.m. Sunday against No. 3/5 Connecticut at Wintrust Arena that will be the first women's college basketball game televised nationally by FOX.
