DePaul Drops Game to Visiting St. John's

Pauly Paulicap registers 16-point, 16-rebound double-double against the Red Storm
CHICAGO – Despite a balanced scoring effort with three Blue Demons in double figures, DePaul fell to St. John's, 81-68, on Wednesday evening at Wintrust Arena.
Charlie Moore scored 14 points in the second half and finished with a game-high 21 to lead DePaul. Pauly Paulicap finished with 16 points and 16 rebounds for his first double-double with the Blue De-mons.
Paulicap and Javon Freeman-Liberty combined for 16 of DePaul's first 18 points with Paulicap proving to be pivotal inside with four offensive rebounds in the first four minutes of action. He finished the evening with 10 offensive boards.
The St. John's lead ballooned to 10 with 11:34 remaining in the first half before a Paulicap layup fol-lowed by a Charlie Moore triple cut the deficit to five. The Red Storm used a 10-2 run of their own over the next three minutes to halt the Blue Demon swing.
St. John's (10-7, 4-6 BIG EAST) took a 49-34 lead into the locker room after scoring 17 points off of nine Blue Demon turnovers. Paulicap recorded a double-double in the first half with 13 points and 13 boards.
Three different Blue Demons scored a field goal in 90 seconds to put together a 6-0 run and cut the lead to nine with 13:01 remaining in the second half.
Each time DePaul (3-6, 1-6 BIG EAST) rallied to move to within single digits, St. John's pulled away and held off the Blue Demons before the score settled at 81-68.
Moore added four assists and two steals to his 21 points and Paulicap posted two blocked shots with his double-double. Freeman-Liberty finished with 16 points, five rebounds and three assists.
Vince Cole led the way for St. John's with 18 points while Julian Champagnie chipped in 16.
DePaul returns to Wintrust Arena on Saturday night to face No. 17/14 Creighton. Start time is 7 p.m. on CBS Sports Network and WIND (560 AM).
