
Second-Half Rally Not Enough for Blue Demons

DePaul closes the deficit in the second half before dropping eight-point game against Seton Hall
CHICAGO – A late rally came up short as DePaul dropped a 76-68 decision to Seton Hall at Wintrust Arena on Saturday afternoon. Javon Freeman-Liberty led the way for the Blue Demons with a game-high 22 points.
Nick Ongenda added 10 points while Romeo Weems, Kobe Elvis and Pauly Paulicap chipped in eight apiece.
DePaul and Seton Hall were locked in a back-and-forth affair with the score knotted at 16 halfway through the first half before the Blue Demons went without a field goal for just over six minutes late in the stanza. The Pirates converted 10 second chance points and nine offensive boards to lead at the break, 40-28.
Freeman-Liberty provided the first half spark for DePaul with 12 points on four-of-five shooting.
The Blue Demons held the Pirates without a field goal for the final nine minutes of the contest to narrow the deficit. In the second half, DePaul scored eight points off 10 Seton Hall turnovers while securing 10 offensive rebounds for 14 second chance points.
A Charlie Moore three-pointer followed by two free throws from Freeman-Liberty narrowed the Seton Hall lead to six before the Pirates made 10 consecutive free throws to close out the game.
Freeman-Liberty added four rebounds and four assists to his game-high 22 points while Weems grabbed a team-high eight boards. After committing 12 turnovers in the first half, the DePaul (1-3, 0-3 BIG EAST) committed just four in the second half while forcing 10 in each half for the Pirates.
Jared Rhoden led four players in double figures for Seton Hall (9-5, 6-2 BIG EAST) with 18 points and six rebounds.
DePaul is back in action on Monday when the Blue Demons welcome Connecticut to Wintrust Arena. Start time is 5 p.m. on FS1 and WYLL (1160 AM).
