Javon Freeman-Liberty Named BIG EAST Player of the Week

Chicago native picks up the league's weekly honor for first time
CHICAGO – DePaul guard Javon Freeman-Liberty was named BIG EAST Player of the Week by the conference office after nearly recording a pair of triple-doubles in wins over Coppin State and Central Michigan. The BIG EAST weekly honor is the first for Freeman-Liberty.
The Chicago native averaged 23.5 points, 8.5 rebounds and 7.5 assists in the two wins. He also totaled 15 assists in the two games with just one turnover while playing as the primary point guard. Freeman-Liberty went 12-for-15 (.800) from the free throw line while also shooting .471 (16-34) from the field and .333 (3-9) from three-point range.
He opened the season on Wednesday with 25 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists (one turnover) in the opener against Coppin State while adding three steals. On Saturday against Central Michigan, Freeman-Liberty totaled 22 points, seven rebounds and seven assists (zero turnovers) with two steals.
In addition to his first BIG EAST weekly honor, Freeman-Liberty was named Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Week three times during the 2019-20 season while playing at Valparaiso.
Freeman-Liberty was joined on the conference's weekly honor list by Creighton's Ryan Nembhard as Freshman of the Week while the honor roll consisted of Adama Sanogo from Connecticut, Marquette's Darryl Morsell, Julian Champagnie from St. John's, Villanova's Justin Moore and Xavier's Paul Scruggs.
The Blue Demons host Rutgers on Thursday night before Western Illinois visits on Saturday night. Both games will be played at Wintrust Arena and tickets are available at depaulbluedemons.com/tickets.
