
DePaul Sweeps Georgetown on Senior Night

Blue Demons head to BIG EAST Tournament in Milwaukee on Friday, Nov. 26
CHICAGO – DePaul closed out the regular season in style with a 3-0 sweep of Georgetown on Senior night at McGrath-Phillips Arena.
Set scores of the match were: 25-17, 25-20, 25-15.
DePaul claimed its sixth straight victory and have won seven of its last eight matches. The Blue Demons head into postseason play at 19-11 overall and 12-6 in BIG EAST action with its lone conference losses coming at the hands of the top-three teams in the standings.
Seniors Meredith Wallace and Emma Price led the way with 10 and eight kills respectively as DePaul hit .351 on the outing while holding the Hoyas to a .123 clip.
Hanna Karl and Bailey Nelson tallied seven kills apiece while Donna Brown hit .444 with five kills on nine attempts. Nelson and Brown were a force to be reckoned with at the net with five and four blocks each as DePaul dominated the net 10-2 in team stuffs.
Setter Molly Murrihy dished out 31 assists while picking up five digs and dropping in four kills. Rachel Krasowski led the back line with 10 digs.
Georgetown was led by a match-high 12 kills from Elissa Barbosa while libero Jessica Cusi had a match-high 17 digs.
How it Happened
Set One: The Blue Demons saw an early 8-5 lead after a block at the net by Nelson and Murrihy. Wallace's second kill of the evening extended the DePaul lead to five and force a Georgetown timeout. Price put down her first kill of the afternoon to put the Blue Demons ahead 16-7. Back-to-back roofs put DePaul in front 20-9. The Hoyas used a 4-0 run to come within seven at 21-14. A Meredith Wallace kill solidified the first set 25-17.
Set Two: A Georgetown serving error put DePaul in front 7-4. Hoyas scored eight of the next 10 points to take a 13-12 lead. Nelson's second kill of the evening knotted the score at 14 apiece. Wallace's third kill of the third set put DePaul in front 18-16 to force a Georgetown timeout. Back-to-back blocks from Nelson handed the Blue Demons set point before Allison Dennemann put DePaul in front 2-0 on the match with a service ace.
Set Three: A stuff from Karl and Nelson on the left side gave DePaul a 6-3 lead early in the third. Wallace dropped in a kill down the line to put the Blue Demons ahead 11-6. A Karl tool off the block allowed DePaul to pull ahead 19-12. The Blue Demons ran off five of the last seven points including back-to-back kills from Wallace to claim the 3-0 victory.

DePaul will be the No. 4 seed and will face the top-seed to be determined on Friday at 3 p.m. CT.
