Morris and Morrow Sweep BIG EAST Awards

Morris BIG EAST Player of the Week, Morrow three-peat Freshman of the Week
CHICAGO – Sonya Morris and Aneesah Morrow made it a clean sweep for DePaul in Monday's BIG EAST awards.
Morris was selected as the BIG EAST Player of the Week after scoring a career-high 36 points that included career highs of 14 field goals and seven three-pointers in a 91-74 victory over Vanderbilt Saturday at the Paradise Jam in the U.S. Virgin Islands.
The 36-point outburst is the most by a BIG EAST player this season.
Morrow was the three-peat choice for BIG EAST Freshman of the Week honors after two more breakout performances at the Paradise Jam. She has won the award every week of the season so far.
On Friday against No. 9/12 Arizona, the 6-foot, 1-inch former Simeon All-Stater came away with 24 points, 16 rebounds, five steals and three blocks often going against 6-5 Lauren Ware in the 75-68 setback.
Less than 24 hours later, Morrow finished with 28 points, 15 rebounds and five steals is a 91-74 win over Vanderbilt in which DePaul trailed 26-9 late in the first quarter. In her last two games, Morrow is averaging 26 points, 15.5 rebounds and five steals.
Morrow currently leads the BIG EAST with three double-doubles on the year and is tied for first with three 20-point games. She also leads the conference in blocks, rebounds and steals (tied with Lexi Held). Morris leads the league in field goals with Morrow second. Morrow and Morris are 1-2 in total points.
For the week, Morris averaged nearly 19 points with 4.3 rebounds and 3.3 assists. Morrow averaged 20 points, 12.7 rebounds and 3.3 steals.
Both are making a strong impression on the national scene. Morrow is No. 6 in the nation in blocked shots, No. 12 in rebounds, No. 13 in free throw attempts, No. 17 in steals along with Held, No. 22 in double-doubles and No. 23 in scoring.
Morris checks in at No. 14 in the country in field goals and No. 20 in field goal attempts. The standout senior guard is No. 31 in scoring.
Morris and Morrow combined to score 64 points while also contributing 21 rebounds and seven steals against Vanderbilt. The M&M duo went 8-for-10 behind the arc as DePaul improved to 5-2. Morris was 7-of-9.
There was a sequence in the fourth quarter in which Morris was in her own little zone. She made five consecutive baskets including four from behind the arc. The sizzling shooting guard scored 32 points in the second half on 12-of-18 shooting including 7-of-8 from three-point land.
Morris, Morrow and their teammates will now focus on their BIG EAST Conference opener Friday against Butler with tip time set for 7 p.m. at Wintrust Arena.
