BIG EAST Freshman of Week averaged a double-double, Church named to Honor Roll
CHICAGO – Aneesah Morrow just went 4-for-4 winning BIG EAST accolades.
The 6-foot, 1-inch forward who is making waves nationwide was named BIG EAST Freshman of the Week Monday for the fourth consecutive time.
It is the first time that has happened since former Connecticut star Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis claimed the award the first four weeks of the 2011-12 season.
Mosqueda-Lewis went on to become BIG EAST Freshman of the Year in 2012, was the third overall pick in the 2015 WNBA Draft by the Seattle Storm and won a WNBA title in 2018.
Deja Church joined Morrow on the weekly awards podium after being named to the BIG EAST Honor Roll.
Morrow helped lead DePaul (7-2, 2-0) to a 101-64 victory over Butler in last Friday's BIG EAST opener at Wintrust Arena with 13 points, six rebounds and four steals.
On Sunday, she had a monster game with 24 points and 19 rebounds---one shy of the BIG EAST rookie record for rebounds in a game---in a 103-85 triumph over Xavier.
For the week, Morrow averaged a double-double with 18.5 points and a BIG EAST-best 12.5 rebounds along with four steals and two blocks per game.
She leads the nation among freshmen in rebounding at 11.3 per game and is second in scoring with 18.4 points a game.
In her last four games, Morrow has 89 points, 56 rebounds and 18 steals for an average of 22.3 points, 14 rebounds and 4.5 steals.
Church is off to the best start of her DePaul career. Earning her second appearance on the Honor Roll, the graduate student guard scored 19 points against Butler and had 21 points, six rebounds and four assists versus Xavier.
She is the team's third-leading scorer at 14.7 points a game and is converting nearly 91 percent of her free throws (39-of-43) to lead DePaul.
Connecticut's Paige Bueckers was the BIG EAST Player of the Week as the top scorer among players with multiple appearances, averaging 22.5 points in wins at Seton Hall and against No. 24/25 Notre Dame.
Morrow, Church and their teammates take on No. 16/18 Kentucky Thursday on the road in the fabled Rupp Arena.
