DePaul (0-2, 0-2 BIG EAST) returns to the court after opening its 2021 spring schedule last weekend with two matches at then- No. 25 Marquette. The Golden Eagles swept the series, taking all six sets. The Blue Demons were set to meet Milwaukee on Tuesday, Feb. 16 before a campus-wide closure and inclement weather canceled the match.
A new opportunity awaits for Marie Zidek and Co. as the Musketeers visit Lincoln Park to renew a BIG EAST series.
"There is a lot of good momentum on our team headed into this weekend. We feel that these next four matches are going to be critical to getting our offense up to a gear we know it can operate at. Right now, our ball control and defense is a little bit ahead of our offense, especially in matches" said Zidek.
"Not a bad problem to have, but in the rally score era, you need the offense to make all of that hard work on defense count for something. We look forward to more match opportunities against good defensive teams like Xavier who looks defensively like they haven't missed a beat in that category. A good defense is exactly the challenge we need right now for our offense to continue to grow and gain setter-hitter rhythm. Should be a great match up, and our group is hungry for this opportunity."
Emma Price and Avarie Evans-Allen lead the DePaul attack after opening weekend, averaging 2.83 and 2.33 kills per set, respectively. Rookies Hanna Karl and Rachel Krasowski tallied 17 and 13 digs across their first weekend of collegiate volleyball.
Xavier (2-3, 0-0 BIG EAST) enters weekend action after dropping a 3-2 match at Marshall on Feb. 14. The Musketeers split a pair of matches with crosstown rival Cincinnati on Feb. 5-6 with each team winning on the away from home. Freshman Delaney Hogan leads the offense for the Musketeers, averaging 2.76 kills per set at a .378 clip. Alyssa Overbeck paces the XU back line with 4.95 digs per set through five matches. Xavier has four players averaging 2.00 kills per set or more.
The Musketeers lead the all-time series 19-6. DePaul's last victory in the matchup came on Oct. 10, 2018
