Blue Demons drop 68-60 decision on Saturday at Wintrust Arena
CHICAGO – The Blue Demons fell behind by double digits early in the second half and couldn't overcome the deficit in a 68-60 loss against Georgetown. Charlie Moore scored 22 points to lead the Blue Demons while Ray Salnave added 11 off the bench.
Pauly Paulicap hit two free throws and Darious Hall knocked down a jumper to get the Blue Demons started. After taking nearly four minutes to score, Georgetown put together a 13-2 run that started with three straight three-pointers.
DePaul answered as Nick Ongenda converted a three-point play and David Jones scored on a driving layup to pull the Blue Demons to within two at 13-11.
Trailing by 10 with 2:46, the Blue Demons scored eight of the final 10 points of the first half as Kobe Elvis drilled a three from the right corner to send the team into halftime with the Hoyas holding a 30-26 advantage.
A three-pointer by Moore started the scoring in the second half to trim the deficit to a point, but Georgetown took command as the Hoyas reeled off 18 straight points and held a 47-29 lead after two free throws by Jamorko Pickett with just over 13 minutes left in the game.
DePaul (4-12, 2-12 BIG EAST) closed to within 10 as Moore drove the basket as scored at the two-minute mark, but the blue Demons would get no closer than the final eight-point margin.
Moore added four assists, two rebounds and a steal to his 22 points while Salnave finished with 11 points, two assists and two steals. David Jones added eight points off the bench and Paulicap grabbed five rebounds with four points.
Georgetown (8-11, 6-8 BIG EAST) was led by Chudier Bile who tallied a 19-point, 10-rebound double-double.
