Blue Demons Post a Win and a Split on Day One

DePaul ties Loyola Chicago and defeats Evansville at Yestingsmeier Match Play
DADE CITY, Fla. – DePaul opened the Earl Yestingsmeier Match Play with a split against Loyola Chicago and a win over Evansville on Monday. Nik Gatmaytan, Artemiy Yalovenko and Grant Boyson all posted two wins in their matches to lead the Blue Demons.
The Blue Demons are in second place after two matches with 1.5 points. Connecticut leads with two points while Drake and Ball State each tallied a team point on Monday. The six-team field consists of host Ball State along with Connecticut, DePaul, Drake, Evansville and Loyola Chicago. Teams will earn one point for a team win and a half point for a tie. The team with the most points at the end of the three matches is the champion.
Monday morning's six matches between the Blue Demons and Ramblers finished with scores of either 1UP or 4&3. Gatmaytan won his match, 1UP, while Yalovenko and Boyson posted wins at 4&3. Noah Kolar and Conor Glennon lost their matches by 1UP scores and Perry Chong fell 4&3. The 3-3 tie gave both DePaul and Loyola a half point in the team standings.
The afternoon session saw the Blue Demons win four of six matches to claim a full point for DePaul. Gatmaytan (3&2), Yalovenko (2&1) and Boyson (5&4) all recorded wins while Kolar and Chong each tied their matches. Glennon came up on the short side of a 4&3 score in his match.
DePaul faces Ball State in the final match on Tuesday morning. The Cardinals defeated Evansville and lost to Drake on Monday.
