Perry Chong leads DePaul with Top 20 finish
PINEHURST, N.C. – Perry Chong was the top finisher in a tie for 18th place as DePaul finished its weekend at the Pinehurst Intercollegiate. Noah Kolar and Conor Glennon also finished in the top 30 to lead the Blue Demons in the tournament.
Chong, Kolar and Glennon finished within a shot of each other over the 54 holes of play. Chong totaled a score of 224 (+11) after carding a 75 (+4) on Sunday. His tie for 18th marked the best finish of his career and second in the top 25. Kolar posted a 77 (+6) in the third round for a tournament total of 225 (+12) to finish in a group in 22nd. Glennon was tied for 28th following a 79 (+8) on Sunday for a total score of 226 (+13).
Artemiy Yalovenko finished in a tie for 35th with a 54-hole total of 228 (+15). He finished the tournament with his second straight score of 74 (+3). Yalovenko and Nik Gatmaytan recorded the best rounds of the day on Sunday for DePaul as Gatmaytan also shot a 74 (+3). Overall, Gatmaytan was a shot behind Yalovenko with a 229 (+16) to finish in 38th place.
Grant Boyson shot a 75 (+4) for a tournament total of 231 (+18) to finished in a group in 42nd place while David Griggs placed 71st with a tournament score of 268 (+55). Griggs finished the event with a 94 (+23) on Sunday.
Dayton claimed the team title by just two shots over Abilene Christian. DePaul placed 10th and was just a shot behind the three-way tie for seventh between Old Dominion, George Washington and Butler.
Up next for the Blue Demons is the Alabama A&M Golf Classic on March 22-23. The three-round, two-day event is set for Hampton Cove Golf Course in Huntsville, Ala.
