Avgeri leads dominant performance at Dayton with ninth consecutive singles win
MIAMISBURG, Ohio – DePaul made it a clean sweep on Sunday at the South Regency Tennis & Fitness Center.
Behind Aspasia Avgeri's ninth consecutive victory at No. 1 singles, the Blue Demons blanked Dayton 7-0 winning every singles and doubles match.
The day began with doubles teams Lenka Antonijevic/Alina Kuzmenkova, Marija Jovicic/Yuliya Kizelbasheva and Avgeri/Maddie Yergler going three-for-three.
The No. 1 tandem of Antonijevic and Kuzmenkova won 6-1, No. 2 Jovicic and Kizelbasheva cruised 6-0 while Avgeri and Yergler prevailed 6-2.
Antonijevic and Kuzmenkova won their third doubles match in a row while Avgeri and Yergler improved to 9-3.
Avgeri won her singles match 6-1, 6-2 against the Flyers' best, Erica Wojcikiewicz. At No. 2, Antonijevic downed Elizabeth Hamilton 6-3, 6-2. KIzelbasheva won at No. 3 by a 6-3, 6-0 margin over Sarah DeMarco.
At No. 4, Jovicic came away with a 6-1, 6-1 decision against Kelly Pleiman while Yergler swept to a 6-0, 6-0 triumph over Natalia Stanton at No. 5. Valentina Martin defeated Julia Bays 6-1, 6-1 at No. 6 singles.
The dominant performance in the Buckeye State lifted coach Marisa Arce's team to 9-4 on the season as Dayton fell to 5-12.
The Blue Demons are back in action Friday in their regular-season finale at Illinois-Chicago.
