
Golf Aims for First BIG EAST Title

Blue Demons have finished second or third in five of the last six conference championship events
CHICAGO – The 2021 BIG EAST Championship presented by JEEP takes the Blue Demons to Florida as DePaul aims for its first conference title. The three-day, three-round event is set to be played at Streamsong Resort in Bowling Green, Fla.
After finishing second or third in five of the last six conference tournaments, the Blue Demons look to clinch the program's first BIG EAST title this week.
The BIG EAST Championship takes place at Streamsong Resort in central Florida starting Monday. Streamsong features three 18-hole courses that are all ranked in the Top 100 in the United States. The conference championship will be played on the Blue Course that features a par-72 layout over 7,276 yards. Tee times start at 8 a.m. ET each day.
The men's championship consists of 10 institutions: Butler, Connecticut, Creighton, DePaul, Georgetown, Marquette, St. John's, Seton Hall, Villanova and Xavier. Due to COVID protocols, St. John's had to withdraw from the 2021 championship. Based on the GolfStat rankings, Marquette is the top seed followed by Connecticut, Seton Hall, Butler and Creighton. DePaul is the No. 6 seed while Xavier, Villanova and Georgetown round out the nine-team field.
The team winner of the event earns the BIG EAST's automatic berth into the 2021 NCAA Tournament field. Should the individual champion not be a member of the championship team, he will also earn a spot in the NCAA Championship field as an individual.

Blue Demons Claim Tournament Title: DePaul captured first place at the Alabama A&M Golf Classic on April 23 with a 13-shot win ahead of Alabama State while four players earned top 10 finishes. Conor Glennon led the DePaul contingent with a second-place finish. He carded a 70 (-2) in the third round to finish at 217 (+1). Noah Kolar placed fifth after he posted a 69 (-3) in the third round for a 54-hole total of 220 (+4). Perry Chong and Artemiy Yalovenko rounded out DePaul's group in the top 10 as Chong notched his first career top 10 finish with a tie for seventh place and Yalovenko finished in a group in 10th place.
Dallio Memorial Returns: An event in the memory of former DePaul golfer John Dallio returned to the schedule as DePaul hosted the John Dallio Match Play on April 2. The Blue Demons defeated Bradley before falling to Loyola Chicago in the championship match. The four team event was played at Ruffled Feathers Golf Club in Lemont as the program hosted a fall tournament in Dallio's name through the 2016-17 season. Bradley, Chicago State and Loyola joined DePaul for the event.
Season So Far: The 2020-21 schedule has featured three match play events and three tournaments. DePaul opened the season at the beginning of February with two match play tournaments in Florida. The BIG EAST Match Play saw the Blue Demons drop matches against Connecticut, Marquette and Seton Hall before DePaul went 1-1-1 at the Earl Yestingsmeier Match Play. The Blue Demons defeated Evansville, tied Loyola Chicago and lost to Ball State at the Yestingsmeier.
The first 54-hole tournament was the Pinehurst Intercollegiate where DePaul finished 10th and Perry Chong was the top individual in a tie for 18th place. The Blue Demons followed the Pinehurst event with the tournament title at the Alabama A&M Golf Classic before going 1-1 at the John Dallio Match Play.
Artemiy Yalovenko led the team at the Dayton Flyer Intercollegiate in a tie for 12th while the Blue Demons finished in ninth place as a team. Yalovenko was also the top finisher at the Hawkeye Invitational as he carded a career-best round of 68 in the third round to finish in a group in 33rd place.
