Head coach Tony Stubblefield announces three transfer additions to 2021-22 roster
CHICAGO – DePaul head coach Tony Stubblefield announced today the addition of three players that will join the roster for the upcoming 2021-22 season. Philmon Gebrewhit, Tyon Grant-Foster and Jalen Terry all recently completed the necessary paperwork to join the program.
"Philmon, Tyon and Jalen are the first building blocks as we start the path towards bringing DePaul basketball back to where our alumni, fans and supporters expect it to be at," said Stubblefield. "All three have played at a high level at other programs and we can't wait to get them on campus and added to our returning core of players to get going for the upcoming season."
Gebrewhit played the last two seasons at South Plains College in Levelland, Texas. Last season with the Texans, he averaged 11.6 points and 3.8 rebounds per game while shooting .463 from the field overall and .410 from three-point range. Gebrewhit played in 13 games in his first season and averaged 7.8 points with a field goal percentage of .351 and a .309 mark from behind the arc. In 32 career games at South Plains, he averaged 10.1 points per game that included 21 games in double figures. Gebrewhit started his collegiate career at Robert Morris (Pa.), but did not play in a game during the 2018-19 season.
"Philmon comes from a well-coached program at South Plains," said Stubblefield. "I love his efficiency from three-point range, but he's much more than a three-point shooter. He does a great job of taking care of the ball and he's a very confident young man that will allow us to do a lot of different things offensively."
Grant-Foster played last season at Kansas after earning NJCAA All-American Honorable Mention honors in 2019-20 at Indian Hills (Iowa) CC. He played in 22 games last season with the Jayhawks while averaging 3.1 points and 2.2 rebounds per game. The Kansas City native led Indian Hills during the shortened 2019-20 season with 16.5 points per game along with a rebounding average of 6.5 boards per game.
"Tyon adds a great deal of versatility to our roster. He can play a number of spots on the floor, which is what I'm most excited about," said Stubblefield. "He's got a knack for getting to the basket and is looking to make plays for his teammates in the lane. Defensively, his length and physicality will give us a chance to run with a number of different lineups."
Terry transfers to DePaul after playing his freshman season at Oregon. He played in 20 games for the Ducks and averaged 2.9 points in 11.6 minutes per game. The Flint, Mich. native was a finalist for Michigan's Mr. Basketball and averaged 20.4 points, 6.5 assists, 5.4 rebounds and 2.6 steals per game for Beecher High School. He was also the AP Division 3 Player of the Year twice and ranked as a four-star guard and the No. 57 player nationally by both Rivals and 247Sports.
"Jalen is someone who we recruited hard while I was at Oregon, and I've had the pleasure of building a great relationship with his family over the last couple of years," said Stubblefield. "Jalen's quickness and ability to push the tempo will be a big factor in our pace this season. Jalen is very good in ball screens and loves to take the challenge defensively."
Stubblefield was named head coach at DePaul on April 6 after serving on the staff for the last 11 years at Oregon and most recently as associate head coach. In his 11 seasons in Eugene, the Ducks made 10 postseason appearances including eight NCAA berths with three Sweet 16s, one Elite Eight and one Final Four appearance. Stubblefield has over two decades of experience in college basketball and is regarded as one of the nation's top recruiters.
