Boyson Leads Blue Demons in Third Round

WEST DES MOINES, Iowa – The DePaul golf team concluded the Zach Johnson Invitational on Tuesday as Grant Boyson turned in the best score of the third round to lead the Blue Demons. DePaul finished 11th while Noah Kolar was the top individual in a tie for 28th place.

Kolar finished in a group in 28th with a tournament total of 220 (+7). He finished the tournament with a 75 (+4) after posting rounds of 71 (E) and 74 (+3) on Monday. Nik Gatmaytan followed Kolar in a tie for 35th as his score of 76 (+5) pushed his tournament total to 222 (+9). Gatmaytan recorded a 76 (+5) in the first round on Monday followed by a 70 (-1) in the second round.

Boyson's Tuesday score of 73 (+2) was the best third round by a DePaul player. The 73 followed Monday scores of 84 (+13) and 70 (-1) for a 54-hole total of 227 (+14) to put him in a tie for 58th. Conor Glennon and Alex Vekich finished within a shot of each other with Glennon tied for 66th and Vekich in a group in 70th place. Glennon posted a 76 (+5) on Tuesday for a tournament total of 229 (+16) after rounds of 75 (+4) and 78 (+7) on Monday. Vekich finished with a total score of 230 (+17) following a round of 76 (+5) on Tuesday. He opened the event with scores of 83 (+12) and 71 (E) on Monday.

The Blue Demons finished in 11th place while Drake and North Dakota State shared the team title. Matthis Besard from Southern Illinois was the individual medalist with a tournament score of 203 (-10).

DePaul continues the fall schedule next week at the Tom Tontimonia Invitational. The two-day, three-round event hosted by Cleveland State is scheduled for Oct. 4-5 at Lakewood Country Club in Westlake, Ohio.
