Blue Demons Knock Off No. 20/18 Seton Hall

Jalen Terry and David Jones combine for 52 points in 96-92 victory on Thursday
CHICAGO – After nearly combining for 200 points in 40 minutes off action, DePaul held off visiting Seton Hall by a score of 96-92 on Thursday afternoon at Wintrust Arena. Jalen Terry scored a career-high 28 points and David Jones added 24 points as the Blue Demons knocked off the No. 20/18 Pirates.
DePaul led the entire game and jumped out to an early 11-4 lead after two free throws by Yor Anei. Anei finished the game with 11 points, eight rebounds and three blocked shots that included a 9-for-12 effort at the free throw line.
Nick Ongenda's free throw with 14:27 left pushed the Blue Demons ahead by a score of 18-6. DePaul led by at least six points over the remainder of the opening half and took a 52-35 lead into intermission. A bucket by Brandon Johnson gave the Blue Demons their largest lead of the afternoon at 50-32 with 1:23 left in the first half.
DePaul (10-6, 1-5 BIG EAST) remained in control throughout the second half until a late charge by Seton Hall closed the gap. The lead was in double figures until the 4:49 mark on a Pirate free throw to make the score 77-68, but the Blue Demons answered with three free throws by Brandon Johnson and Jones to go back ahead by a dozen with 3:42 left.
In the final two minutes the lead dwindled to single digits before Seton Hall pulled to within two on three occasions in the final 30 seconds. Each time Terry knocked down a pair of free throws to ice the game and finalize the 96-92 score.
The Blue Demons combined to go 36-for-45 (.800) from the free throw line that included an 11-of-13 effort from Terry along with Anei's 9-of-12 game. Jones went 6-for-7 and Johnson was 5-of-6 at the line. Johnson totaled nine points and six rebounds while Jones added eight rebounds, five steals, two assists and two blocked shots to his 24 points. Javon Freeman-Liberty also finished in double figures with 12 points.
Seton Hall (11-4, 2-3 BIG EAST) was led by 25 points from Jared Rhoden and 22 points by Bryce Aiken.
DePaul returns to Wintrust Arena next Wednesday for an 8 p.m. game against Xavier. The game can be seen on FS1 and heard live on WIND (560 AM).
