Successful Home Opener for 'Band of Brothers'

Blue Demons go for a 7-0 Sunday sweep of UIC at XS Tennis Village
CHICAGO – Now, this is the way to stage a home opener.
Playing their first match at their new facility XS Tennis Village, the Blue Demons swept past Illinois-Chicago 7-0 Sunday on the South Side.
Coach Matt Brothers and his team improved to 4-2 on the dual-match season while UIC fell to 1-4.
DePaul came out fast and never looked back. The doubles teams of Vito Tonejc and Marino Jakic at No. 1, (by a 6-4 score), Luuk Wassenaar and Lars Peder Minsaas in the second slot (6-5) and No. 3 Tripp Tuff and Leon Huck (6-2) combined to provide a quick 1-0 lead.
Minsaas opened singles play at No. 5 by easing past Kevin Kruzel 6-1, 6-0. Tuff followed Minsaas' lead at No. 4 with a 6-1, 6-1 decision over Ammar Wazir.
The clinching point belonged to No. 1 singles standout Tonejc with a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Pelle Strandberg.
Finishing out the intra-city matchup, Jakic topped Gustavo Schwebel 6-1, 7-6(7-5) at No. 2. Wassenaar defeated Francesco Tacconi 6-1, 6-3 at No. 3 and No.6 Phasu Sirinit prevailed in the only three-setter 6-4, 3-6, 10-8 over Arrtem Iermolov.
The "Band of Brothers" travels to West Lafayette, Ind. Saturday for matches against the host Boilermakers and Saint Louis.
