
DePaul Drops Three-Set Match to St. John’s

Blue Demons return to action on Saturday at 4 p.m. against Seton Hall
CHICAGO – DePaul volleyball could not fall into an offensive rhythm on Friday night in a 3-0 setback to St. John's at McGrath-Phillips Arena.
Set scores of the match were: 14-25, 19-25, 19-25.
Returning home for the first time in two weeks, the Blue Demons were stifled to just 33 just kills on .091 hitting while the potent Red Storm attack put down 43 kills at a .318 clip.
DePaul (6-15, 2-7 BIG EAST) saw Aly Kindelberger and Taylor Underwood tally seven kills apiece with Kindelberger tacking on three blocks.
Jill Pressly picked up eight digs while Rachel Krasowski collected seven.
Rachele Rastelli and Giorgia Walther led St. John's (16-6, 7-2) with nine kills apiece.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Set One: St. John's jumped out to an early 10-3 lead and continued to extend their advantage to 18-8 and force DePaul to use its second and final timeout of the set. The Red Storm hit a formidable .435 in the first frame to take the set 25-14 while quieting the Blue Demons to a .000 attack percentage.
Set Two: Trailing 8-5, the Blue Demons used a 4-0 run to take its first lead of the match at 9-8. Back-to-back attack errors from DePaul handed the Red Storm a 15-13 lead midway through the second set. St. John's rattled off a 7-2 run to widen their lead to 22-15 before the Blue Demons battled back to come within four, 23-19, and force a Red Storm timeout. Consecutive kills from St. John's gave the road team a 25-19 set two victory.
Set Three: Bailey Nelson's third kill of the evening brought DePaul within a pair while trailing 11-9. The Red Storm kept the Blue Demons at bay on consecutive swings to take a 21-16 lead and force DePaul to burn their final timeout. Back-to-back errors for the Blue Demons gave St. John's the set 25-19 and the match 3-0.
