Borowiak Makes Program History, Men Place Fifth at BIG EAST Championship

Olivia Borowiak earns highest place finish for DePaul in program history
CHICAGO – DePaul cross country began their championship portion of the 2022 season on Saturday when they competed in the BIG EAST Championships in Attleboro, Mass.Â
The women's 6K race began at 10 a.m. CT. The women's team placed sixth overall, the highest place finish for DePaul since joining the BIG EAST. Olivia Borowiak led the way for the team, setting a school record with her 11th place finish in 20:11. This is the highest place in DePaul history.
"Olivia's performance was fantastic," said head coach Geoff Wayton. "She was really aggressive from the front and held her concentration during the middle of the race. Her last 1000 meters was just fantastic. She passed a bunch of women and almost got first team all-conference. I believe that's the highest place in BIG EAST history for a young woman here at DePaul so really really happy with her effort and focus. The rest of the women did a great job. We had our best effort of the year."
The six other competing members of the women's team finished closely behind. The whole team finished within the top-70. Nina Amicon was second on the team and 34th overall, finishing with a time of 21:44.Â
The men's 8K competition began at 10:50 a.m. CT, following the women's race. The Blue Demons saw a fifth place team finish, trying their highest finish in program history. Nine of the 13 participants finished within the top-70 competitors.Â
The squad was led by Shane Knanishu, who earned 24th place in 24:27. Dominic Bruce followed with a finish in 27th place with a time of 24:29. William Previdi, Damian Rodriguez and Charley Eagle all earned top-50 finishes.Â
