Freya Jupp Invited to Play with The England U19 National Team

The Blue Demon competes for her country
CHICAGO – DePaul women's soccer forward Freya Jupp has been invited to play with the England U19 National Team. Jupp will be competing with the team in their first round of Euro qualifiers.Â

The Portsmouth native traveled back to England last week to begin training with the Lionesses. Jupp will be absent from three BIG EAST Conference contests with plans to rejoin the Blue Demons for their match against UConn.Â

"You never want a player to miss three BIG EAST games, but I think we knew that when we recruited her and it's always great to have the top young internationals playing on our team," said Head Coach Michele O'Brien. "I think that's the gamble you take and the risk you take. I was just so happy for her. She came here and is a great kid, super coachable, works really hard and I know how bad she wants to play for her country."Â

On Wednesday, Jupp saw action in England's first match, a 5-0 landslide win over Slovenia, netting a goal in the 87th minute to seal the victory.Â

The England U19 National Team will face off against Slovakia on October 8, and then then go head-to-head with Denmark on the October 11. If the team qualifies out of this round, they will move onto round two and play for a chance to compete for the Euro Championship in the Summer of 2023.Â

"I'm excited for her and that she gets to have this opportunity to represent her country at a high level and I hope that the short time she's spent here has helped prepare her for that opportunity."
