Conference stakes high in Wednesday's Wish Field matchup
CHICAGO – On the heels of a 1-0 shutout victory at UConn on Saturday, Oct. 17, the Blue Demon women's soccer team hosts Georgetown at Wish Field for a midweek matchup on Wednesday, Oct. 21. The two programs are scheduled to play at 3 p.m. CT, with coverage available on ESPN+.
Trailing third-place Georgetown (2-2-2 BIG EAST) by just three points in conference standings, fifth-place DePaul (1-2-2 BIG EAST) can tie the Hoyas with a victory on Wednesday.
DePaul Debrief
The Blue Demons earned their first three points in BIG EAST play with a road victory over UConn on Saturday. Conference weekly award winners Katelyn Haiser and Mason Hillery were critical in the matchup.
DePaul fired two shots in the first eight minutes before Hillery leaped into action in the 26th minute, rushing out of the box to stifle a dangerous one-on-one opportunity for the Huskies. Hillery then batted away a looping header in the 38th minute.
On the other side of the ball, Haiser's attack began in the 28th minute when her first dangerous shot bounced off the bottom left post. Haiser got another chance in the 43rd minute, but the shot ricocheted off the crossbar.
In the second half, the Huskies tested Hillery four times in the first 10 minutes, but DePaul struck first. In the 70th minute, Haiser fielded a leading pass from Carolina Capizzi through two UConn defenders, then evaded the Huskies' goalkeeper to get the game-winner.
Scouting Georgetown
Georgetown hasn't lost in the last three matches, earning a 1-1 result at Providence and a 2-1 win versus St. John's before most recently shutting out Butler 2-0 on the road.
Both successful Hoya strikes against the Bulldogs came in the first half, as Lizzie Heller opened scoring in the 17th minute with her third goal of the season. Aliza Mannon followed Heller's lead, netting her fifth goal of the season in the 25th minute on a pass from Isabel Boodell.
Netminder Reiley Fitzpatrick owned six saves in the matchup and earned her fourth solo shutout.
Mannon and Heller made their way up the Hoya stat sheet with goals at Butler, now sitting in second and third place, respectively. Abigail Droner leads the Georgetown roster with six goals and three assists.
In goal, Fitzpatrick started 12 matches this season, recording 31 saves and allowing 12 goals. The fifth year is responsible for four of five Hoya victories, with goalkeeper Alexa Hadley claiming the fifth in a 90-minute, 4-1 performance against George Washington in mid-September.
Series History
The Blue Demons and Hoyas prepare for their 25th all-time meeting, with DePaul trailing 7-13-4 in the series. Georgetown claimed last year's matchup, defeating the 2025 Blue Demon squad 2-0 in Washington, D.C. DePaul emerged victorious the year before, earning a 1-0 victory at Wish Field in 2024. The Blue Demons are 4-4-2 at home against the Hoyas.
