Blue Demons Conquer Marian Tuesday Night

DePaul wins its lone exhibition game of the season
CHICAGO – DePaul men's basketball dominated Marian, 104-66, in the team's only exhibition game of the season Tuesday night. DePaul will officially open its 2022-23 season Monday, Nov. 7 against Loyola (Md.) inside Wintrust Arena. Tickets for the season opener can be purchased here.
Senior center Nick Ongenda led three players in double-digits with 16 points while Jalen Terry and Da'Sean Nelson added 13 and 12, respectively. Ongenda appeared plenty ready for the season, tallying his double-digit scoring in 18 minutes in addition to eight rebounds, four blocks, three assists and a steal.
Marian was led by David Britton who tallied 16 points and three steals.
HOW IT HAPPENED
DePaul won the tip and took charge from the beginning of the game. Terry set the tone, opening the game with a three-pointer. Ongenda did his damage in the first, tallying 14 points on 7-of-9 shooting to help the Blue Demons to a 48-29 lead at halftime.
The Blue Demons continued their success in the second half, as all 14 available players recorded a field goal. DePaul shot 6-of-12 from behind-the-arc in the second half and finished the game with an overall 53.2 field goal percentage.

OF NOTE
- Terry was red hot from three-point range, ending the game 3-for-4.
- Umoja Gibson recorded a game-high nine assists, with zero turnovers. Gibson also contributed six points, four rebounds and three steals.
- Eral Penn earned the exhibition game start and nabbed a team-high 10 rebounds.
- True freshman Mo Sall made the most of his minutes, closing out the game with a dunk and finishing the contest 3-for-3.
- Other newcomers who saw action included Ahmad Bynum, who missed last season, and tallied eight points and Zion Cruz who recorded five rebounds.
- DePaul led nearly every specialty category, including points in the paint, fast breaks and bench points. The Blue Demons also ended the night with a +28 rebounding margin.
