DePaul, Villanova Fight to Draw on Senior Day

Teams tie at three each
CHICAGO -Â DePaul men's soccer (4-6-7, 1-4-5 BIG EAST) fought to a 3-3 draw against Villanova (6-8-3, 2-6-2 BIG EAST) on Senior Day at Wish Field. The Wednesday afternoon matchup saw six total goals and 18 Blue Demons log minutes.Â
Prior to kickoff, DePaul recognized senior David Gripman and fifth-years Matty Brickman, Jake Fuderer and Jack Richards for their effort and contribution they have given to DePaul men's soccer during their collegiate careers.Â
Following the senior day celebration, the Blue Demons got off to a hot start, firing off three shots before Jack Richards connected for the first goal of the match. Richards gave DePaul an early lead off of a find from Omar Ramadan in the 24th minute. The score was Richards' second goal of the season.
Villanova committed a foul inside the box in the 25th minute, leading to a DePaul penalty kick. Jake Fuderer notched the ball into the upper right hand side of the net, scoring his third goal of the season.
The Wildcats put up six shots during the remaining 20 minutes of the first half, but were unable to connect. DePaul held the 2-0 lead at halftime.
Villanova came out of the break showing pressure, cutting into DePaul's lead when they scored their first goal of the match in the 51st minute. Following the goal, Villanova was awarded two corner kicks and was able to connect on the second one for their second goal, tying the match at two in the 55th minute.
Villanova's Viktor Benediktsson was issued a yellow card in the 68th minute, setting up a free kick for the Blue Demons just outside the box. Jake Fuderer took the free kick and curled his shot to the top left of the net, giving DePaul the 3-2 lead and Fuderer his second goal of the day.
Following DePaul's third goal, both sides continued to trade shots. Villanova was able to get an equalizer in the 89th minute off of a corner kick, ending the match in a 3-3 draw.Â
The Blue Demons finished Wednesday's match with 20 shots, with five ending on goal. The three goals scored tied a season-high for total goals scored in a match, which was three goals at UIC on Sept. 20.
