
Strong Second Half Leads Blue Demons to Victory

Umoja Gibson posted a game-best 17 second-half points
CHICAGO – The DePaul men's basketball team was once again led by a strong second half, as they took a decisive 91-70 victory against UTEP inside Wintrust Arena. The duo of Javan Johnson and Umoja Gibson continue to lead the Blue Demons as they combined for 45 points Saturday evening.
Gibson tallied 17 of his 22 points in the second-half and ended the night shooting 7-of-14. He tacked on four rebounds, three assists and three steals. Johnson scored a game-high 23 points in addition to five rebounds and two assists.
DePaul (6-4, 0-1 BIG EAST) had a total of five players reach double-digit scoring figures as Eral Penn, Philmon Gebrewhit and Jalen Terry all notched 11 points.
HOW IT HAPPENED
UTEP (6-3) took control early, leading DePaul by as much as 11 points. DePaul took advantage of nine made free throws to cut into the lead. Johnson nailed a three-pointer to officially put the Blue Demons in the lead for good, 31-29. UTEP tried to regain control but Jalen Terry sealed the first half with a four-point play on a buzzer beater three.
DePaul carried its momentum from the end of the first half out of the locker room, starting the second period on a 15-2 run. With a 53-35 lead, the Blue Demons firmly controlled the remainder of the game.

- Johnson recorded his 12th-straight double-digit game, dating back to 2021-22.
- Saturday marked Johnson's second game this season with five or more three-pointers, previously scoring a career-best six against Samford.
