Blue Demon sophomore earns national acclaim after record-breaking performance last week
CHICAGO -- DePaul sophomore forward Aneesah Morrow added to her collection of national accolades on Tuesday after being selected the Ann Meyers Drysdale National Player of the Week by the United States Basketball Writers Association (USBWA).
Morrow, also named BIG EAST Player of the Week, led the Blue Demons to a 2-0 week with a pair of big-time performances over local foes Loyola and Northwestern.
Against the Ramblers, Morrow totaled a game-high 25 points and 14 rebounds in 28 minutes of action before exploding for a DePaul single-game record 45 points to go along with 13 rebounds in an 81-63 win in Evanston.
In Saturday's victory, Morrow notched her second 40-point outing of the season, the most of any player in the country, while matching Iowa's Caitlin Clark for the most in a game this season. With a free throw in the fourth quarter, Morrow eclipsed 1,000 career points in the 43rd game of her career – a feat only 12 women in NCAA Division I history have accomplished in fewer games.
On the season, Morrow ranks fourth nationally with 26.1 points per game while landing sixth in rebounds per game at 12.1. Her eight double-doubles in 11 games is good for third in Division I.
Florida State's Ta'Niya Latson was selected Tamika Catchings Freshman of the Week.
DePaul (8-3) continues its six-game home stretch on Sunday, Dec. 18 with a BIG EAST matchup against Georgetown at Wintrust Arena.
